The Golden Age of Muscle Cars:

1973 Ford Mustang
Many car enthusiasts agree that the golden age of American Muscle Cars lasted from around 1964-1973. Beginning in 1964 with the introduction of the Buick GTO and the Ford Mustang, muscle cars became increasingly popular. These cars were designed for performance but also meant to be affordable for the average American. Nearly all were characterized by big V-8 engines and sleek two-door frames. The GTO and Mustang were soon competing with impressive productions from Chevrolet, with the Camaro, Chevelle and Nova, as well as Dodge and Plymouth, with the Charger, Challenger, Road Runner, and Barracuda.
